Overview
BoomBox connects to any commercially available camera trap to create an Automated Behavioural Response (ABR) system. When the camera trap is triggered BoomBox plays an audio cue and the camera records the animal's response to the audio cue.
ABR systems combine the benefits of camera traps with the power of playback experiments, enabling a range of wildlife research and conservation applications including understanding predator/prey dynamics, the impacts of human activities on wildlife, or as non lethal pest deterrence.
For more information on ABRs', experiment ideas and published papers, please visit BoomBox Project website or visit BoomBox Project forum.
Features
The BoomBox Standard device comes with the following features:
- Compatible with commercially available camera traps *
- Audio plays within ~3 milliseconds of camera being triggered
- Configurable delay time between the camera trap triggering and when the audio cue plays, allowing pre audio cue behaviour to be recorded
- Sequential or random audio playback
- Different playlists for daytime and night time
- Detachable MP3 module with 16mb of flash memory to store audio files, approx 15 minutes of MP3 play time. The number of audio files depends on length and quality of audio files.
- Sound output is approximately is 80dB at 1 metre
- Manual or ‘in software’ volume adjustment
- 1 – 1.5 months battery life (battery life depends on trigger frequency and volume)
- Comes with a rugged IP65 rated enclosure
- Community, support, user guides and resources to help with experiment design, deployment best practises and troubleshooting available at BoomBox Project website and BoomBox Project Forum to .
* If your camera trap isn't listed, contact us and we can interface to it.
